The Renaissance Cooperative, a powerful collaboration between Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corporation (NRCDC) and Macgregor Area Community Development Corporation (MACDC), was established in August 1993 to stimulate economic growth and commercial development and attract investment into the Third Ward community.

The first project of this joint venture, the Renaissance Center, was purchased in August 1995, featuring a 9.6-acre property with 93,000 square feet of retail/office space. An HEB Grocery store became the primary anchor tenant, alongside a medical clinic, dollar store, and appliance center.

With HBDi’s financing in conjunction with Chase Bank, this redevelopment project became a reality, sparking additional developments and revitalization efforts in the area. The project also created over 100 jobs in the Third Ward neighborhood, contributing to the community’s vitality and prosperity.
